1-Min Video Blogs : Tibbs & the Frog Eating Snake

Some of you may have hear me tell the story of time a “enormous man eating spider” tried to hitch a ride on my bike in the Chinese desert. (read more) Now I bring you a Katie Tibbetts reason why you should always look before peeing in the woods of South Korea. Interested in our [...]

1-Min Video Blogs : When Katie Doesnt Eat Enough Bells Break

One minute Katie was cycling up the hill, the next she was on the road, gear strewn everywhere. Why? Don’t really know, but here is the resulting conversation the next morning and the discovery that she had broken her bell, which used to be Tom’s.

1-Min Video Blogs : Ground Effect Style

These days both Katie and I look like walking advertisements for a little New Zealand company called Ground Effect which provides a unique line of cycling clothing and accessories that in their words and my opinion “works and lasts.” More on the company, how I found it, and why I use their gear in a [...]

Haircuts in Turkey (1 comment)

Getting a Haircut or a shave in Turkey is definitely a must do. Not only do they provide you with tea and wait every time you go to drink it, they also do something that I had never experienced before. Watch and see.

Turkey Is So Close

With our trip to Vardzia complete we took what seemed to be the best road to Turkey which was no more than 200km away. Yes we knew there was a 2000 meter pass in between, but no asphalt, that was a surprise.

Trip to Vardzia

Getting to Vardzia can be done many ways. Car, Minibus, Taxi or bike. We decided to add a little adventure to our trip and combined a few of these Vardzia was definitely a highlight to our Georgian Experience.

Georgian Rocky Road

No, not the cream. We seemed to find plenty of dirt road in Georgia. Here is what it’s like to ride it.

The Roads of Azerbaijan

Despite a rocky/sandy start the roads of Azerbaijan soon turned into beautiful tree lined ups and downs. Now all we need to do is avoid the traffic.

Day Off in Lahic, Azerbaijan

Two days into riding Azerbaijan I became so dehydrated that I couldn’t ride so we decided to take an unscheduled day off and head to a place we read about in the lonely planet called Lahic. Here is how we spent our day off.

Black Markets Are Fun

The black market is the best place to get the best rate for USD in Uzbekistan.

Private Registan Tour (1 comment)

We learned that if you pay the right guard near the Registan in Samarkand that he would let you climb the Minaret.

Our Uzbek Family

It was no more than 12 hours into Uzbekistan before we were invited into a strangers home to stay the night. I caught some of this on video.

Our Biggest Pass in Kyrgyzstan

There is nothing like 2 and a half hours of downhill riding to remind you why cycling is so much fun.

Crossing the Border into Kazakhstan

To cross the border from China to Kazakhstan you must take a bus. Tom covered this in his post Borderline Ridiculous. Here is what is was like.

Back to Kazakhstan

By now you would have read the post about our adventure from Bukhara back to Aktau, Kazakhstan. This is what the first train was like.
