Issues: Kath - 1 flat tire
On Monday morning, we managed to get going earlier than normal, although I began the day with a flat tire! We decided our destination would be the coastal resort of Anmyeoung-do, where Jared and Katie had spent some time a few years before. The weather was decent enough and the tire problem seemed to be solved. We made it to the coast and saw a few beautiful guest houses along the way. Around midday, we noticed something in the distance that looked like a folk village. It was surrounded by mountains and fields and huge ponds that were probably used for fish farming. Intrigued, we cycled into the village and found it to be in wonderful condition – obviously constructed to look like a 500 year old Korean village. There was no indication as to its purpose, but considering the remoteness, and the fact that there were clean bathrooms with running water, we concluded that it was probably a movie set. A Korean coworker later confirmed this to be true. After exploring the village for a while, we headed on to our destination. In the late afternoon we reached Anmyeoung-do, and Katie found a stunning guest house that had a vacancy. David and Jared went off to find us our food for the night, and Katie and I relaxed chatting while they were gone. The owner of the guest house was kind enough to drive them into town, and they returned with an extensive variety of seafood and a nice collection of alcohol. We wined and dined the night away on the top of the cliff with the sea on one side, and the barbeque at arms reach on the other. It was certainly the highlight of the trip.
